We firmly believe that we will soon know the construction contractor of the restoration of the western palace of Beckov Castle. That should happen on January 21 this year. Before that, however, we would like to offer you an insight into how the construction should look like in April 2023.
Beckov Castle is not primarily intended for completion. However, some objects can be roofed. The Western Palace is just one such object. However, after the restoration, the castle will still retain its ruinous character from the outside.
Despite the fact that we try to preserve all the original interesting architectural elements, we will not avoid some of the novelties, which are, however, applied in accordance with the current restoration methodology. One of these elements is the so-called green roof over the knight's hall.
The renovation is linked to the basement and the first floor. Unfortunately, the second and third attics will not be restored, but only preserved. Due to the fact that the only pictorial material we have available today is from the period just before the castle burned down, it is not possible to proceed with such a comprehensive reconstruction. Based on various researches and analogies, we will try to respect the authenticity of this area as much as possible.
We will reveal the interior solutions to you soon.
The DRAGON project received a grant from the EEA and Norway and the state budget of the Slovak Republic for the restoration of the western palace and interior equipment in the amount of €983,557. The goal of the project is to bring the West Palace and the entire area into a form that will respect and emphasize the preserved historical values from the High Gothic and Renaissance periods.
